Paul Foster showing us some C# code on the big screen in Visual Studio 2010.

Charlie Kindel on xna and silverlight for WP7 (Windows Phone 7)
Charlie Kindel who worked on Windows NT gives us the background to the new Windows 7 mobile – WP7 (Windows Phone 7). Here he is telling us that anyone who can do Silverlight and XNA can now make applications for the new WP7 (Windows Phone 7) phones because that is what they use as well as c sharp to program them.

ingo rammer on multi cores - slower
Ingo Rammer tells us that multi cores can process threads, when the code is set to do that, independently. But each core tends to run slower to conserve heat. Shoed us a 128 core system which drew gasps from audience.

ingo rammer does timing tests on multi core programming in c#
Here Ingo Rammer is doing some timing tests to explain multi core and multi threading concepts and how Visual Studio 2010 improves App performance by utilising each core effectively.

Mike Taulty telling us about use of Silverlight in WP7 (Windows Phone 7) apps and not in browser
Mike Taulty tells us that Silverlight will be used in mobile Apps but not in the browser. He then took us for a drive round the code for WP7 (Windows Phone 7) mobile Apps – toast, tiles and other goodies. All looks easy and fast to develop with Express or Visual Studio 2010.

Mike Taulty showing us a hello world program for WP7
Mike Taulty shows us the nitty-gritty of a hello world App on a WP7 (Windows Phone 7) mobile phone App. In this case he manages to get a rabbit to appear out of a hat by pressing a button. Cleverly the type of hat changed as well 🙂

Tron Light Cycle

March 7, 2010

The old B film Tron had humans trapped in a computer game (Light Cycle) and this idea is probably correct in that WE ARE PROBABLY living in a giant computer too.
Have a go at the game on windows to get a sense of riding Light Cycles (free windows version here)

Fusball at Kick Bar, Shoreditch on Thursday 11th Feb 2010

February 16, 2010

The geeks fusball tournament was GR8 fun. It took place in the lower floor of the Kick Bar – which is just near Old Street/ Shoreditch High Street junction.
It was a knock out with first to 5 goals and loads got knocked out 😦 but it was full to bursting with geeks.
Chloe was there – and got knocked out on the first round – awwwwww. I could not even start – no places left.
Wish I knew who won it! Sorry.
A popular knock-out evening for all 🙂 🙂 🙂
